Our programs

Participant

The festival invites advanced pianists over the age of 16 to apply.  This program offers an exceptional opportunity for pianists to work closely with world-renowned faculty, gain deeper insight into their current repertoire, and hone their technique and artistic expression.  Pianists ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Exceptions for pianists younger than 16 may be made in some cases.

Included in tuition for active students:

  • 5 individual lessons
  • Attendance as a listener to all scheduled lessons
  • Free entry to all concerts and master classes
  • Performance in at least one Young Performers concert

Price: €1500*

*Discount of €50 for students who send their application before December 15, are accepted, and pay the full tuition amount before February 15 of the following year.

Auditors

Included in tuition for auditors:

  • Access to all classes and concerts

Fellowship

The fellowship program is a special part of the Gijón Piano Festival. It is designed for experienced performers, with a strong emphasis on doctoral candidates. Each year up to four scholarship recipients will be selected from among the applicants.

Chosen fellows will perform a solo recital and will also have the opportunity to collaborate in various tasks related to the organization of the festival, which will allow them to gain practical experience while being part of this event.

Included in fellowship:

  • 5 individual lessons
  • Free entry to all concerts and master classes
  • €600 Reduction of Tuition
  • One solo recital at one of the various festival venues

Price: €900

Work Study

Up to five students will be selected to participate in the festival’s work-study program. The chosen students will have the opportunity to collaborate on various tasks related to the organization of the festival, which will allow them to gain practical experience while being active participants. In exchange for their participation, they will receive a €250 reduction in the cost of their tuition. This program is designed to offer a form of financial aid to students, while providing them with practical administrative experience.

Included in the application for work-study:

  • 5 individual lessons
  • Free entry to all concerts and masterclasses
  • Performance in at least one Young Performers concert

Price:  €1500 (€250 cash will be paid to the participant near the end of the Festival)

Dominique Weber Scholarship

Thanks to a generous donation of the Festival’s founder, Julián Martin, the Dominique Weber Scholarship is a full scholarship offered annually to young pianists. Dominique Weber was a much-loved teacher at the Gijón Piano Festival, and this scholarship is a way to keep his legacy alive. This scholarship seeks to support emerging talent by providing them an opportunity to participate in this festival.

Included in Dominique Weber scholarship: 

  • 5 individual lessons
  • Free entry to all concerts and master classes
  • FREE tuition fee
  • One solo recital at one of the various festival venues

Price: FREE (does not include travel, room and board)

 

Gijon Conservatory scholarship

Every year 4 piano students from the Gijón Conservatory will enjoy free tuition to the Gijón International Festival

Included in tuition for hearing students:

  • 5 individual lessons
  • Free entry to all concerts and master classes

Price: FREE

Chris Egerton Scholarhip

Chris Egerton is a generous donor who helps up to four (4) students with €500 scholarships.

Included in Chris Egerton scholarship:

  • 5 individual lessons
  • Free entry to all concerts and master classes
  • Performance in at least one Young Performers concert

Price: €1000

Selection process

The selection of pianists will be based on their curriculum vitae, musical training and professional experience. Since the number of places for active students is limited, we encourage applicants to submit their materials as soon as possible. Lesson requests will be accommodated according to the order in which applications are received as well as the order that tuition payment is made by accepted applicants. Tuition is not refundable under any circumstance.

Resume or CV, which must include:

  • Academic training
  • Teachers and conservatories
  • Titles and awards
  • Scholarships
  • Participation in other festivals

Recording:

  • A minimum of two contrasting musical styles
  • At least two contrasting works with a total duration of 20 to 30 minutes

Confirmation process

Applications are processed on a rolling basis.  Applicants will be informed of their application status two or three weeks after their application has been received.  For accepted applicants, if the first choice of lesson requests cannot be accommodated due to lack of faculty availability, other lesson assignments will be suggested by the coordinator prior to tuition payment.

Tuition Payment

Payment must be made by bank transfer without additional costs for the organization. Be sure to clearly specify the full name of the participant in the transaction.
